Copper Hair Colour In London
You’ve been staring at a picture of someone with copper hair thinking: could I actually pull that off?
Probably yes. Here’s why.
The misconception about copper
Most people think copper is only for very pale, fair-skinned clients. It isn’t. That’s just one version of copper.
There are also deeper, richer, more burned-copper tones that look incredible on medium and olive skin. We’ve been doing a lot of those lately and they’re genuinely having a moment.
At SCL we tailor the specific shade of copper to your complexion and your natural colour. Not “is copper for you” but “which copper is for you.” There’s a difference.
What the service actually involves
Depends on your starting colour. If you’re already lighter, copper can go on as a direct colour application. If you’re darker, we’ll need to lift first before we tone.
We use Olaplex through the colour process, which helps with the integrity of your hair and means the colour holds better over time.
How long does copper hair last?
Warm tones fade faster than cool ones. That’s just the nature of the pigment. The vibrancy peaks in the first couple of weeks and then softens gradually.
The fade is actually quite nice. Copper tends to go warmer and more muted rather than brassy, which a lot of clients end up loving as much as the original result. Most people come back every eight to ten weeks.
A colour-protecting shampoo will extend the life of it. We’ll tell you which one.
Come in for a consultation
Not sure which shade of copper would suit you? That’s exactly what a consultation is for. We’ll look at your skin tone and your starting colour and tell you what we’d do.

Copper sits between red and orange on the colour spectrum, with warm undertones and high vibrancy. It ranges from soft strawberry copper to rich, deep burned-copper. The right shade depends on your skin tone and starting colour.
-
Yes. Dark hair may need lightening first to achieve a true copper tone rather than a reddish tint. Your SCL colourist will advise on the best route based on your starting colour.
-
Copper is a warm tone and fades faster than cooler shades. Most clients find the colour at its most vibrant in the first two to three weeks, then softening gradually. Most return every 8 to 10 weeks.
-
Copper works across a much wider range of skin tones than people expect. Lighter, cooler copper tones suit fair skin. Deeper, richer copper suits medium and olive skin. The key is choosing the right shade, which SCL does in consultation.
-
More than some shades, less than others. Copper fades to warmer, more muted tones rather than going brassy, which many clients actually like. A colour-protecting shampoo will help extend the vibrancy.
